Semen Detection

Semen detection kits are pretty common courses of action for people looking for evidence of an affair, but one of the limitations, as with any type of analysis, is that without all the facts, it's hard to know what conclusions to draw. This is especially true for semen detection kits, as there are a number of variables to take into account, and a positive result for semen detection doesn't always point towards cheating.

However, it's interesting to see what excuses or justifications are offered as a means of explaining how semen turned up in underwear. I received an email from a client recently who had purchased and conducted a semen test on her husband's underwear. The result came back positive, and when confronted, he told her that it just comes out during the day, and is pre-ejaculatory fluid. No big deal.

So how do you know if he has been having sex or if it's just pre-cum? Are pre-ejaculate fluid and semen the same? Here is my answer:

That's a really interesting question.

Pre-ejaculate fluid and semen are two different things. To explain this, I have considered your situation and offer the following explanation:

During sex, the penis releases two kinds of fluids. The first is pre-ejaculate or pre-cum, a lubricant made in a gland in the penis. This fluid usually contains no sperm, but can transmit infections. The second, released with ejaculation, is semen, which is made in the testicles and carries thousands of sperm in addition to any sexually transmittable infections that may be present.

Many sources that discuss the ineffectiveness of withdrawal argue that pre-cum can contain sperm. This is because previous ejaculations can leave some sperm behind in the folds of the penis. While there is a need for further study, it is likely that urination before intercourse washes leftover sperm from the urethra, the tube from which both urine and semen exit the penis.

The only way your husband would have semen in his pre-ejaculate fluid would be if there was some sperm left in his urethra or in the folds of his penis. It is likely that urination would wash most of it out, so for any sperm to be in his underwear he would have had to ejaculated, either through sex or masturbation. Pre-ejaculate fluid on its own does not contain semen. It's simply a natural lubricant.

Semen doesn't just come out during the day unless it's followed sex or masturbation. If he is telling you that it simply comes out on it's own, chances are he's not telling you the whole truth.
